Postdoctoral Fellow – National Cancer Institute

Location: Frederick, MD

Posted on: July 01, 2026

Description:

The Gildersleeve laboratory at the National Cancer Institute currently has an opening for a postdoctoral fellow. The goal of our research program is to discover, evolve, and use carbohydrate-binding antibodies for basic research and clinical applications.

Cells are covered in carbohydrates, and the carbohydrates produced by a cell change significantly during the onset and progression of cancer resulting in the display of numerous tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens. These carbohydrates are useful targets for vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutic agents. Our lab develops new strategies to discover monoclonal antibodies that target these carbohydrates and new approaches to engineer and evolve antibodies.

We use a variety of approaches and techniques with these projects, including molecular biology, biochemistry, single cell sequencing, and protein chemistry. In addition, we have developed a carbohydrate antigen microarray that provides a unique tool for high-throughput profiling of antibody selectivity and affinity.

Candidates with experience in antibody discovery, protein engineering, glycobiology, and/or directed evolution are especially encouraged to apply. Additional information about our research can be found here. The Gildersleeve Lab is part of the National Cancer Institute Chemical Biology Laboratory located in Frederick, Maryland. More information about the CBL can be found here.
